Coach’s Recognition Award
The Manuel J. Bettencourt Coach’s Recognition Award recognizes the dedication of a parent that has volunteered to take over a team and coach and mentor girls playing for the Pawtucket Slaterettes. It is through their commitment that the league is able to grow and flourish from year to year.
As a “thank you” for their service, the league selects one of these coaches at random at the end of each season. The Bettencourt family then donates the registration fee for that coach’s daughter for the following season.
Manuel Bettencourt was a coach and board member in the 80’s and 90’s. All three of his daughters – Deb, Denise and Melissa – played in the league. Mr. Bettencourt lost his battle with leukemia in 2013. His family hopes other parents will take advantage of this great opportunity to join their daughters on the baseball field and to help impact the lives of other children as well.
