Manuel Bettencourt, board member and coach, May 2013

Manuel J. Bettencourt, 68, of Northport, FL, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at home, surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Shirley Bettencourt.

Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Alice (Cunha) and Manuel Bettencourt.

Manuel was a retired employee of the City of Pawtucket. He was also a coach and board member for the Pawtucket Slaterettes Girls’ Baseball League. He relocated to Florida in 2002.

He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War where he received the Bronze Star Medal as part of the 101st Airborne Division.

Besides his wife he is survived by Debra (Mary Ann) Bettencourt, Denise (Donald) King, Melissa (Logan) Durang, Matthew (Kristin) Clark, David (Heather) Clark, Catherine Wisher, and Christopher (Shana) Clark, ten grandchildren, sisters Joan Kaiser and Patricia Swinamer, and 6 nieces and nephews.
